Rutgers University Bookstores

Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, the New Jersey-based bookseller known for creating lively and welcoming centers of campus life, is partnering with Rutgers to manage the university’s bookstores and student center convenience stores on the New Brunswick Campus. The stores opened under Barnes & Noble management on November 3, 2008. The Student Co-op Store and Mabel's convenience store, both located on the Cook/Douglass Campus, remain independently run.

The Rutgers University Bookstore, currently located in the Ferren Mall, will become a Barnes & Noble Collegiate Superstore when it moves to the Gateway facility adjacent to the New Brunswick train station. The superstore, occupying three stories and 46,000 square feet, will be the retail anchor of the Gateway, a major mixed-use redevelopment project that is anticipated to be completed in 2011.

Rutgers selected Barnes & Noble following a comprehensive and highly competitive request for proposal process, which included submissions from several national firms. Barnes & Noble offered new and enhanced services and programs, as well as experience operating superstores in more than 20 locations nationwide.
